Come on out for our Third Annual Winter Warm Up to shake out those cabin fever blues. Join great regional bands Caroline Doctorow, Matchstick Architects, Sub Slab ,and Jasper for a fun evening to warm you up and shake up your winter doldrums.

CAROLINE DOCTOROW

Caroline Doctorow is a chart-topping Americana folk singer songwriter, with a stirring voice that recalls Judy Collins and Sandy Denny. Her style echos the great ’60s folk songwriters.

Caroline Doctorow is a regular returning guest on the famed Blue Plate Special, the live radio broadcast. Her singing can be heard on the soundtrack of the feature film Daniel directed by Sidney Lumet, and on the PBS TV series “Freedom, The History of Us. In addition to eleven solo albums, she also released the first retrospective of the work of Richard and Mimi Fariña called AnotheCountry which received critical acclaim.

Caroline tours with her folk band The Steamrollers. (fiddle and upright bass). She is the daughter of world-renown author E.L. Doctorow

THE MATCHSTICK ARCHITECTS

The Matchstick Architects are a New England based rock band with a soulful blend of country, blues, and folk influences. The band is fronted by Dar Maloney on guitar and lead vocals. The band features Maloney, Tom Conklin on lead guitar, Diane Davis on bass, and Dave Willey on drums. The band plays in and around New England and beyond in support of their debut CD entitled… All That’s In Between.

The first single off the debut album, Little Things, enjoyed a steady rotation on The Exit 97.7 WEXT, a radio station based in Troy, NY which serves the greater Capital District of Albany, NY. The song also came in at #12 on the radio station’s Top 60 Local 518 Songs of 2016. Here is what morning drive personality, Dave Michaels, had to say about the debut effort…

“Tom Conklin’s rousing guitar playing mixes delightfully with the honey voice of Dar Maloney on The Matchstick Architect’s debut album, “All That’s In Between”.  The band, rounded out by bassist Diane Davis and drummer Paul Unsworth, stomp through nine songs; delivering a good mixture of moods on the album, from the slick pop-like song The Moment, to the slowing burning rocker Ready.  A promising debut.”

SUBSLAB

SubSlab, is an Albany based quintet playing original music in a variety of genres. Their songs speak of love & life informed by 60 years of the American Rock ‘n’ Roll tradition. Influences span time and genre, creating powerful tunes with melodic hooks, thundering bass lines, harmonious guitars and rock-steady drumming.

As one local critic noted: “There’s no mistaking a well crafted song that rocks you along and shoots an arrow straight to your heart. SubSlab seems to have a quiver full.”SubSlab mines the rock genre with an upbeat, whimsical and mature ear tuned to stories of love & loss, redemption & hope. (with a beat you can dance to!)

SubSlab is comfortable rocking out small bars, entertaining at intimate night clubs and cranking up the crowd from the stages of small concert halls and festivals. They have shared performing stages with bands obscure and notable. Recently the Slabbers played at the nationally know Linda Norris Auditorium in Albany, NY which broadcasts many of the shows via National Public Radio affiliate, WAMC and they are getting air play with a number of their songs on WEXT, Exit 97.7 FM; WDST, Radio Woodstock 100.1 FM and web-based shows like Die Covers Die.

JASPER

Even the members of Jasper, a rock and roll band galvanized by contemporary rock, were surprised to have performed twice in New York City only a year after forming the band. Comprised of young and ambitious Schenectady, NY natives, the 3-man collective has already received radio-play from prominent Capital Region stations, such as WEXT 97.7 and 102.7 WEQX. From the performance at East Village Social in NYC to local shows at The Low Beat, Pauly’s Hotel, and more, Jasper continues to build their buzz and garner a growing, loyal fan-base throughout the area.

Fueled by classic rock-n-roll music as well as contemporary artists, former high school classmates Alex Brooks (lead-singer, guitar, drums), Ben Gesek (singer, drums, guitar, bass) and Bryan ‘Brad’ Bidwell (bass, guitar) occasionally jammed in Gesek’s basement. In spring of 2015 the high school jam-mates decided to kick things up a notch and committed to each other, forming Jasper. Gesek said, “My whole life I wanted to be in a band rather than just having jam sessions, things just never clicked well-enough musically when I played with others. But when me, Brooks and Rad [Bryan] started jamming we caught a vibe and knew we had something special.

Influenced by White Album/Revolver era Beatles and The Band with modern-day influences deriving from Dr. Dog and The Strokes, each member of Jasper lets his laid-back, good-vibe personality flow through the music enticing the crowd to do the same. “If someone is standing still, by the end of the show our goal is to get them movin’ and groovin’ without a care in the world,” lead-singer Alex Brooks said.
