Bear Grass // Thelma // gobbinjr // Nxnes x Pink Nois
September 19 at 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Doors open at 6 pm
Located in Troy, NY, Bear Grass is built around the quirky songs of Katie Hammon. Her sultry pipes leave them devastated, but the band’s blend of folk, rock, and homespun trip-hop soothes their wounds. Hammon’s roots in the pacific northwest shape the character of the music with lyrics often referencing the people and places from her childhood memories. Drawing on influences like Laura Veirs and Dave Bazaan, the music is sometimes subtly dark, but always thoroughly captivating and melodic.
Thelma’s origin seems to suggest that Natasha Jacobs’ musical abilities sprouted from the singer-songwriter almost spontaneously, whilst she convalesced after a life-changing fall from a ladder. Although there is surely more of a back-story than that, this was when she started writing songs and playing guitar. The project itself began two years later as a solo endeavor but soon became a band when Daniel Siles, Maciej Lewandowski, and Juan Pablo Siles joined.
Upbeat and whimsical indie pop meets themes of loss, remorse, relationships and uninvited advances.gobbinjr (lower case please) is Madison, WI-native turned Brooklynite Emma Jerk Witmer’s unapologetic project. Her debut album manalang (again, leave your caps at home) is the blunt, peachy child of Witmer’s angsty yet sophisticated approach, creating a bedroom-panorama of earwormy, hazy melodies.
Nxnes x Pink Nois:
Performing an eclectic set of originals, covers, and soulful jams, this spaced-out future-RnB power duo (or trio??) takes flight again to bring audiences ear candy to treat their dance fever.
