Verifiable Voting – How Secure Is Our Voting System?: The Sierra Club has long held that many environmental battles are won in legislatures and in Congress – inextricably tying our votes to our environment. We are very happy to welcome back Virginia Martin, Election Commissioner, Columbia County, to discuss her county’s approach to ensuring voting-system security. A lot has happened since she last spoke to us, and a lot of the discussion these days centers on the Russians. Securing our votes via paper-ballot systems in all 50 states has support from diverse corners, from the Washington Post to Donald Trump. Thankfully, New York already votes on paper. But how secure are our optical-scan voting machines? Can New York’s elections process be improved? The presentation will begin with a clip from the excellent film, “I Voted ??” .
