Food For Thought: BECOMING MORE VISIBLE

May 18, 2017 at 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Food For Thought is a monthly evening of food, film and discussion with a focus on films of social, political, environmental and community interest. Held on the third Thursday of each month, the night will feature food samples by Honest Weight Food Co-op, music by Jack Empie, a feature film screening, and an open panel discussion.

This month’s film:

BECOMING MORE VISIBLE

Are you Male or Female? Check a box. For our four fearless young adults this is not a simple question. Confused since early childhood, these four defy societal norms to be their true selves and become more visible. No transition is easy but we see some are easier than others. We follow Sean, a trans male comedian from a small affluent town in upstate NY, Katherine, a Bangladeshi trans girl from a family steeped in their cultural traditions, Olivia, who had to leave her family in Atlanta and enter the shelter system in order to be the woman she knows she is, and the unforgettable Morgin, a fully transitioned woman pursuing her musical ambitions and making her way in the world.

BECOMING MORE VISIBLE is cutting across platforms to ignite the change needed to put an end to the discrimination of transgender young adults worldwide. With this film we hope to shift the paradigm around gender identities, roles and assumptions, encouraging society to see these young people for who they are, and not how they were born or choose to identify.
